Turkey organizing "nationalist Arabs in Mosul"
Information shows that Turkey heavily supports anti-Kurd al Hadba Gathering in Mosul province.
A number of newspapers in Baghdad recently reported that Turkey is working to open a satellite TV channel for al Hadba Gathering in Mosul province, well known for its enmity toward Kurds. Reports said Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi visited Turkey to discuss the
latest development. He is the brother of Atheel al-Nujaifi, head of al Hadba Gathering and governor of Mosul province.
Opening such a TV channel would be considered Turkey's latest role in its continued support for this group. Turkey's support for al Hadba was also mentioned in the WikiLeaks cables. The cable, which quoted U.S. Ambassador Christopher R. Hill, said, "Turkey has forged one of the best relationships with the Iraqi government and with Kurdish officials in northern Iraq." Turkey, the cables note, "also played an important role in helping the United States and Iraq negotiate the security agreement that provides for the withdrawal of American troops by the end of 2011. But Turkey has been unable to resist the temptation to intervene in Iraqi politics." Turkey, an April 2009 cable noted, "played an unhelpful role in recent Iraqi provincial elections through its clandestine financial support of the anti-Kurd al Hadba Gathering."

A politician in Mosul who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue told "The Kurdish Globe" that since 2003 and the fall of Saddam Hussein, Turkey has worked effectively to organize nationalist Arabs in Mosul with the aim of using them against Kurdish power in the province; moreover, Turkey also seeks to control the province's economy, which has been very successful.
The politician mentioned that most of the support for al Hadba comes from the Turkish consulate in Mosul, which Turkey opened after 2003. "Until recently, Turkey's only consulate in all Iraq was in Mosul city," he added. Now Turkey has a consulate in Erbil city and another in Basra.

He described the Turkish consul in Mosul as "the true governor of Mosul,"and he mentioned that occasionally he heard from Arab sheikhs close to al Hadba praising the Ottoman Empire. They have said that "Mosul had a golden time when it was under Othman Empire," and they don't mind if Mosul isagain controlled by Turkey. "I see from time to time that the Arab sheikhs close to al Hadba visit Turkey," said the politician.
Al-Hadba is an alliance of several smaller parties headed by Atheel al-Nujaifi, whose brother Osama is the head of Iraqi Parliament and one of the Sunni-backed Iraqiya leaders. The brothers come from a prominent Mosul family who have been famous as businessmen and breeders of prized Arabian horses. The Party campaigned as the voice of Mosul's Arab majority, promising to support a strong Iraqi central government and oppose the annexation of northern Mosul province by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Kurdish politicians have labelled Hadba leaders as racists, accusing the party of inciting hatred against Kurds in the province and opposing a fair resolution of territorial disputes.

Al-Hadba has long campaigned to create divisions between Mosul's smaller minority groups and the Kurds, thus undermining Kurdish efforts to annex the towns where those minorities live. The attempt to split off members of the Yazidi religious sect has been particularly offensive to Kurds who have always considered the Yazidis to be a part of their people; in the recent campaign, some Yazidi politicians came out against Kurdish dominance in Mosul.

  1. Mosul / Kirkuk were stolen from Turkey by British manouvers, when the Lausanne treaty left the issue open. The same British gassed Kurds in the mid 1920's and Lord Curzon famously declared it would be "ridiculous for a bunch of nomads" to decide their own future and the League of Nations offered the provinces to Britain-ruled Iraq in a golden platter.

  2. Stolen from Turkey How? In 1920 Turkey did not exist? The Ottoman Empire had crumpled?Greece had one third of her previous Byzantine lands under a mandate 1920 Sevres Treaty. Russia was just finishing her civil War and you argue Turkey lost her territories? How? What people were residing there??When did you become a republic? When did you fight the Sheik Nursi Revolts? How did you treat your Kurdsish allies in 1925? Well before you talk about Kirkurk you should ask yourself what about your own lands in Diyarbakir Gazienttep, Adana and all of Turkish occupied kurdistan are you sure that they are still yours? Can you walk in the night with safety ask your troops? (Walla) Lord Curzon cursed as he was the only people he betrayed (Turk) was the Greeks in the Lauzaune Treaty of 1923. He did not stand by Greece in the Eastern Thrace dispute. But as far as the punny Turks claims of Iraqi kurdistan Lord Curzon had stocks in the (British)Oil fields of Mosul and Kirkurk. Afterall how the mighty British Empire will let a Turkish state of 11 million back then (1923) which was not sure even for its own territory and people to tell the British Crown what to do. Too much Science fiction you read Turk made from Davutoglu's book of worms. Keep dreaming Turk. Give my regards to Hakan just for old times sake.

  4. Mosul was stolen from 'Turkey' who did not exist then, and could you tell us who stole Kurdish land?
Who tries to eliminate a language and a culture supported by twenty ml. people?
The nomads that the British didn't want to leave in their peace, are the same people that the Turks arrogantly claim that they can't rule themselves.
The other nations of the same region can't rule themselves so the Turks are responsible for ruling them, is this what our turkish friends believe?
