The Philippines intercepted 25 unmanned Chinese fishing vessels being towed by a Chinese vessel in waters claimed by both countries. The Philippines took possession of 16 of the boats, with the other nine lost at sea due to bad weather. China is demanding the return of the vessels and an apology for the incident, which took place as the Philippines is conducting joint military exercises with the U.S.
