ANKARA - Salman Abedi, the suicide bomber who killed 22 people at a Manchester pop concert this week, started life advantageously enough: to parents who had fled Gadhafi’s Libya for a new life in Britain. But actually it was that kind of dislocation that would send him off kilter two decades later, says Olivier Roy, one of France’s top experts on Islamic terrorism.
“An estimated 60 percent of those who espouse violent jihadism in Europe are second-generation Muslims who have lost their connection with their country of origin and have failed to integrate into Western societies,” Roy says.
They are subject to a “process of deculturation” that leaves them ignorant of and detached from both the European society and the one of their origins. The result, Roy argues, is a dangerous “identity vacuum” in which “violent extremism thrives.”
Born in Britain in 1994, Abedi would later be drawn to violent fundamentalism after a life in limbo. On the one hand, he tried to reconnect with Libya, where he traveled shortly before this week’s attack, while on the other, he strove to emulate the same British young people he killed.

Why should anyone accept only a psychological explanation of phenomena which are to be understood much deeper in human nature and human condition ?
Islam is a religious explanation, because not every religion is good. Only the true religion is good, and this is to be understood by the simple fact that the good religion does not provoke terrorist acts, nor human sacrifices, but only respect for every human being and for every creature as much as possible, and above all respect for God's only very very benevolent will. Outside the Orthodox Chritian Church, faith and life, all yhese are more or less impossible.
Mr Roy may call himself expert on Islamic Terrorism but if France relies on experts like Mr. Roy they will never understand and address the issue of terrorism.

Mass migration happened from the early 19th century to the US and Australia and after the second world war to most European countries. UK had several million Indian and muslim people. In Germany there are around 12 to 14 million Turks (muslims) yet we didn't see them wrap explosives around their waist and detonate them. How Mr. Roy missed that? Unless Mr. Roy can somehow explain why immigrants were integrating to their new society for the last 100 years and the last ten to fifteen years they are failing to integrate and become radicalized. Someone must have an IQ below 50 to start believing Mr. Roys explanation.
As much as he doesn't want to admit it (at least in public) it is an Islamic extremist issue.

This is an inaccurate description of what happened to islamic societies when a " european" or "american" future was offered to their youth, as an option, due to the need for foreign workers in western Europe - and USA during the last 100 years.
This perspective of a life "en roses" has not outlived the currently conditionned decline of christianity values in western countries. They are being replaced by a kabbaistic-judaistic version of religious syncretism "values"; such as,
_ the " value" that there is not an ontological foundation of the moral distinction between doing good and doing harm to others (only a distinction between right and wrong, stipulated by laws, more or less arbitrarily),
_ the "value" that there is not neccessarily a God as a personal existence, and that people can base their common existence on nothing really,
_ the "value" that men and women are not the only genders,
_ the value that in every religion lies some truth, but in no religion all the Truth, etc.
All these result in making islamic societies feel, not only that they are ousted from the economical and scietnific paradise scheduled only for westerners, but also that there is nothing more in common between them and the westerners, except from the colonial past.
While a globalization process and future emerges, their place is no longer that of an immigrant worker, but that of a being treeted without christian values, i.e. as an inferior being!
In the meantime they see a huge handicap of the " West". West disposes no longer of social human values respecting God, having them replaced by the fondamental doubt about the meaning of the human existence.
When they compare these mutilations of the western civilisation, to their certainty of believing in God, and their feeling of belonging to a sentimetanlly coherent society, their youth feels naturally called to take the power over the declining West, in order to make their "values" global and preponderant on earth.
Coran is gaining in authority again, the USA administration has proved since Clinton and Bush the 2nd to be easily influenced by Saudi Arabia, and politicians in westen and central Europe are either purchased or made ready for the increase of muslims in Europe, etc.
Under these conditions Islamic Terrorism becomes a modern way of genocide-like religious cleaning, executed by nets of relatively small groups of terrorrists, in order to impose a growing turbulance in Europe and USA, aiming at a largeley islamic (social and big business) occupation upon the western people – under the pretext, this will allow an undermining effort of USA or German Europe against China and Russia....
Mr. Alexandrinos, I usually enjoy reading your responses. They are always well thought and documented. In this case however, you are makng some wrong assumptions which leads to innacurate conclusions, at least for the US that I have personal experience for at least 25 years.
ΔιαγραφήThe US as you know is an immigrant based society consisting of Christian ethnicities such as Irish, Italians, Greeks, Germans, Spaniards both of European decent as well as Latin American decent, sevral African nation ethicities. All of them, especially the Catholics are very religious and it remains as such nowdays. The majority of muslim ethnicities in the US are originate from Turkey and the Middle East/ Arab nations.
The first generation of all immigrants have naturally the most difficulty to adapt, especially as we go back in the early years of migration where literacy was low and the majority were labour workers. However, all of them made an honest effort to adapt to their new country, the new way of life and obey the laws of the US regardless of religion and as such the terrorism phenomenon didnt exist to the degree it is apparent today.
The value of doing good vs doing harm to others is something that parents have the responsibility to instill to their children. Yes, several religions teach doing good to people; Christianity being one of them; but the religion or church doent always reach everyone as much as family do. Hence someone should ask where were the mulsim families teach to their offsprings doing good to their fellow citizens? Instead their instilled hate in their souls and taught them to live by the saria law.
The ethnicity thats feels most as an outcast in the US is the African American society. They brought into the US as slaves have sufferd discrimination over the years and to nowdays remain the least educated ethnicity, with high criminalstatistics, yet they dont detonate a bomb in the name of Allah.
It is also mentioned that the presence of God is questioned. This is true but is happening for as lng as I remember and it is usually a phenomenon of Christianity. I am not aware of muslims questioning Allah and become atheists. The problem here is that muslims want their religion to be the only religion on this planet. We have several incidences of muslims killing Christians, from recent events in Egypt to the genocides of Tyrkey over the years but we dont have the opposite.
As for male / female not being the only genders and we must have bathrooms for gender neutral people this is US liberal BS that goes along with what Clinton had said to address terrorism; "we will give them hugs and show them true love". If we dont understand nature is not perfect and sometimes creates a "gender mulfunction" then we have a bigger problem. Thats not a new phenomenon. It exists for thousand of years but nowdays we must be politically correct about it. Yest still not a reason for someone to be radicalized.
I can go on analyzing it but this response is already long. The bottom line is that all arguments listed apply to people of all religions and have been almost the same through out the immigration years, yet it is only the islamic people that are becoming radicalized. Should we start looking deeper as to what the real reasons are.
